Cardio Workout Drills (30-50 mins.) - The key segment of your program

This is where you must get players to workout in their cardio workout zone . . . and keep them there! (refer to the Cardio Tennis Workout Zone Charts for zones for various ages and physical conditions). You want a variety of drills that are stimulating, challenging, and fun! Even within the same drill, pros must  feed to each players according ability and physical conditioning.

Generally speaking there are two types of drills you can use:

1.  Drill Based
2.  Play Based

You can also run sideline drills at the same time. Sideline drills are covered in another section. No matter what, use a variety of approaches. Keep you program fresh!

Drill Based Approach - This is where people are in lines, circling to the end of the line after hitting. The advantage of this approach is you can have players of ALL abilities on the court at one time. You must make your drills "engaging" with this approach or your players will be bored.

Play Based drills bring "live ball" competition into the drill which is fun for many players. However, a good play based approach is better when it includes players of similar ability. It is considerably more difficult to run an effective class in a play based approach when a 5.5 player shares the court with a 2.5 player. Note: one of the things you can encourage in a play based approach is to promote "semi-cooperative" play where one does not try to end points right away. "Keep everyone involved".
